Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen wrote in an Instagram post:
“My heart weeps for the girls and women of the United States. Big setback. The right to free abortion is one of the basic rights that exist. We should never compromise a woman’s unrestricted right to decide about her own body and future.”
The latest abortion ruling issued today by the US Supreme Court
Several other left-wing politicians also commented on the decision. After the Prime Minister's post on Instagram.
SF President Pia Olsen Der described the decision as a "black day for all women" in a Facebook post.
Also, Pernell Skipper, thinks Denmark should take action.
“This should get us involved. As individuals in solidarity with women around the world. And as a state.”
Skipper is calling for action from Denmark's foreign minister, Jeppe Kofod, who Skipper believes he should press against Joe Biden to secure a woman's right to abortion in the constitution.
Professor Nils Pierre Poulsen considers that the right to free abortion is unlikely to be included in the constitution.
What does Biden think of the Supreme Court's decision:
Biden believes that women's lives and health are in danger after the US Supreme Court overturned the federal right to abortion.
President Joe Biden says the US Supreme Court has "taken constitutional rights" from Americans and set the United States back 150 years.
"The Court has done what it has never done before, explicitly removing a constitutional right that is a fundamental right of many Americans," Biden said.
His statement comes after the nation's Supreme Court overturned the federal right to abortion by overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.
The president says it's a decision that "literally sets the country back 150 years."
Biden continues that the health and lives of women in this country are now in danger, and it is a sad day for the court and for the country.
The court is taking us on a very dangerous path
He urged voters to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming mid-term elections in November.
In the president’s opinion, “the court is taking us down a very dangerous path,” he said:
- In my opinion, this is the realization of an extremist ideology and a tragic mistake on the part of the Supreme Court.
Of the nine justices serving on the US Supreme Court, three have been appointed by Biden's immediate predecessor to the position, Republican Donald Trump.
All three are Conservatives and all voted to oust Roe v. Wade.
The right to marry whoever he wants is expected to be nominated as one of the following rights that could be discussed.
Votes came 5 to 4
By 5-4, the nine US Supreme Court justices on Friday threw out Roe v. Wade, which guarantees the right to abortion throughout the United States.
The majority of justices believed that the landmark decision at the time was wrong because the US Constitution does not specifically mention abortion rights.
The court's decision is seen as a victory for Republicans and forces over the religious right wing of the United States who want to ban or at least restrict abortion.
Abortion is one of the topics that can restrict freedoms in the United States.
Biden concludes by calling for protests to be organized peacefully.
- No threats. He also says that violence is totally unacceptable.
Some Supreme Court justices had received threats, which made it necessary to protect them from the police before Friday's decision.
